iMBA Learner Stories
Keisha Craig-OttleyKeisha Craig-Ottley: "My favorite thing about the program is the vibrant community of learners. My peers just a click away, always ready to share advice, information, tips, and whatever I need. This is an unparalleled asset in an online program. You feel connected and supported, which is truly extraordinary."
Troy ParishTroy Parish:"Prior to applying to the iMBA program, I completed two MOOCs on the Coursera platform, and I started applying concepts I learned right away. In researching various advanced programs, I realized that Gies’ iMBA, a premier program, with its capstone courses to bring all the tools in my toolbox together, would be perfect; it is the learning experience I was looking for with hands-on projects, group work, and problem solving."

The iMBA program encompasses far more than the classroom. The iMBA helps students spark tangible connections to peers, faculty, and the subject matter.

Your Classmates

You will be matched with a diverse mix of students who will work through the degree program with you. Forge bonds and build camaraderie through challenging group work and exploratory breakout sessions, face-to-face in the online classroom. Your classmates will come from a breadth of industries and a range of work experiences: past students have ranged from individual looking to advance their careers to CEOs looking to expand their knowledge base. We strive to admit students that contribute to the professional development and success of others.

Apply coursework to your career - immediately

One of the most unique aspects of the iMBA is the freedom to complete the key subject areas in the order you choose. Most iMBA students work while completing the degree. There is ample opportunity to sync classroom learning with your profession, which makes your MBA immediately useful and reinforces the value of your coursework. Past iMBA students have used real-life problems from their work for course case studies.

The World's MBA

The iMBA program delivers opportunities to connect with fellow students and faculty in real time around the world.

The live class sessions expand beyond standard video conferences — the University of Illinois has on-campus production studios built for the program, and each session features your professor and TAs who field questions in real time. The producer facilitates the experience and ensures that interactive discussion flow smoothly. Online, face-to-face office hours with professors and TAs are held every week, scheduled to accommodate learners from every time zone.

  • Gain access to a variety of tools designed to help you stay connected, such as discussion forums, chat tools, video conference platforms, and social media workspaces. The platforms include:
  • A student-run social media platform where iMBA students network with each other, faculty, and on-campus Gies MBA students
  • Regional iMBA student meet-ups
  • Online and in-person study sessions self-organized by students
  • In-person faculty meet-ups with students
